Florida Storm-Damage Roof Claims: Notice Deadlines to Verify in 2026

Florida roof-claim deadlines should be checked against the current statute and the facts of the loss. This article is general information, not legal, coverage or claims-adjusting advice.

Current statutory notice periods

Florida Statutes section 627.70132 currently states that notice of a claim or reopened claim under a property insurance policy is generally barred unless given within one year after the date of loss. Notice of a supplemental claim is generally barred unless given within 18 months after the date of loss. Do not rely on older three-year guidance.

Read Florida Statutes section 627.70132.

Act promptly and preserve records

Report damage to the insurer promptly, follow emergency-safety instructions, take photographs from safe locations, keep receipts and preserve communications. Temporary mitigation should not put anyone on an unsafe roof. The policy, cause of loss and insurer instructions control what documentation is required.

Know each professional's role

A roofing contractor can inspect accessible roof conditions and provide a repair or replacement scope. Coverage, claim value and policy interpretation belong to the insurer and appropriately licensed insurance or legal professionals. No contractor can guarantee payment or a settlement.

Request a Roofing Inspection

The team can review accessible roof conditions, discuss project options and prepare a property-specific written scope. Confirm inspection scope and scheduling when the request is reviewed.
